The Day the Darkness Came

And suddenly a Darkness descends
Looming above the city
Quaking creatures shutter their windows
In hopes it will pass them by

The streets have gone silent
and are now deserted
Leaving behind and empty grey
That had been there all along

Only the voices can be heard
Many sounding out as one
A myriad in unholy unison
Riding a mighty roar of thunder

They come from all sides
But speak as one
Reaching into every home
From everywhere and nowhere

Amplified by megaphones
Metallic and cold
Carried across the airwaves
Hysterical and shrill

From every direction
In every land
Speaking in tongues
But with one voice

The moment has come
The veil has been lifted
For those with eyes to see
The nebulous forms taking shape

While the voices rage on
Impetuous and implacable
For those with ears to discern
The essence of their dizzying cries

The moment is upon us
The veil has been lifted
